An anticipated open-source rhythm game called Friday Night Funkin'
(commonly referred to as FNF) was originally made available as a demo in 2020 during a game jam.
The Funkin Crew Inc., a tiny team that includes the Newgrounds users Cameron ninjamuffin99 Taylor,
David PhantomArcade Brown, Isaac Kawai Sprite Garcia, and evilsk8r, is creating the game.
The game incorporates visual elements from Flash games and shares gameplay elements with Dance Dance Revolution and PaRappa the Rapper.
Users have been said to have returned to Newgrounds as a result of the game, a website whose popularity peaked in the early 2000s.
The protagonist of the game, Boyfriend, competes against other characters in singing
and rapping competitions in order to keep dating his love interest, Girlfriend.
The goal of the game is to strike notes with timed inputs without running out of health during the song.
On October 5, 2020, the game was first made for the Ludum Dare 47 game jam.
On November 1, 2020, an extended demo was published, and upgrades followed in the next months.
